Laura Patricia
She's talking to herself again…

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates, but exciting stuff has been going on! I’ll attempt to give you a rundown of the news before I head off to bash out some articles – hopefully there’ll be a plethora of new stuff up here over the next week or so, so do check back.

The big news is that I was headhunted, and am now the new freelance proofreader/editor of a local magazine! You may not have heard of it, but you’ve probably seen it around.  CityLife is distributed on the new Greyhound buses, as well as at ferry terminals, hotels and so on, as well as places like Cascades and Gunwharf.  From the next issue onwards, my name will be on it, so do pick up a copy if you spot one.

We’re currently recruiting writers and photographers as well, so if you’re an aspiring creative type yourself do get in touch and I’ll hook you up.  We can’t pay anyone (not even me), but it is a good way to get your name in print and your work seen by a readership of 20,000.  My task at the moment is to find 15,000 words worth of content in a week, so I’ll take anything you (or your friends) want to offer!

I’ll write more about CityLife later I’m sure, but in all the excitement surrounding that I also somehow found time to write seven articles for K9 Magazine, five of which were published online (links at the bottom) and two of which will be in the next issue of the e-zine. This was fantastic experience for me (basically my dream job), and I’d like to thank the team, especially Jennifer White and Ryan O’Meara, for their encouragement and for giving me this opportunity.

Prior to all this, I won a Silver Award from the Union for my work with UPSU Media, giving me a full complement along with my Bronze from First year and my Gold from last year.  I just missed out on the Lifetime Achievement Award, but I’m sure the fellow who pipped me at the post was a very deserving winner.  I also got all my grades back from my final semester at university; no resits, 66% on my dissertation and I THINK a 2:1 overall, so I’m pretty happy!  We also finally refilled the empty fish tank (poor Tango finally gave up and died just after the move) with three new baby fish called Andrew, Patrick, and Llewyn. Don’t ask me, Adam named them…

Living with the boy is going well, though there have been a few little issues that needed sorting out – on both counts, I assure you!  He’s currently in Italy killing himself by cycling up three mountains, or something ridiculous like that, which means it’s just me and his housemate bumming around the flat, but Adam’ll be back on Monday and I’m going home myself this weekend so it’s not too bad. Just wish I could have afforded to go to Italy with him!

Once I get back down next week, I just have the fun task of trying to fill my days – between this website, CityLife and the ever thrilling task of job hunting, I’m sure I’ll manage somehow!  I have four reviews to write up and send over to Unbored, and I have agreed to do an article for YEAH Magazine as well, so my typing fingers will be kept busy.  I really need an income at some point, but I’ll worry about that when it comes to it…

Anyways, I had better go.  Watch this space for new stuff, and in the meantime here are my doggie articles for you to read:
