Well guys, I have a bit of a treat for you this week. I have decided to share some of my earlier attempts at writing with my loyal readers here.
Whenever they do interviews with writers, they always ask them when and how they started writing. Usually the answer is that they wrote a play for their dolls when they were a child, or entered a short story competition. In my case, the first original story that I ever wrote all off my own back was about a young girl hunting with a Saluki dog in Arabia. But the first thing that I ever sat down and properly produced was Redwall FanFic entitled, imaginatively, Lupwa’s Story.
I was twelve, and I LOVED Redwall, which, for the ignorant, is a series of books by Brian Jacques, where all the main characters are woodland creatures. (I highly reccomend them to readers of all ages – they are both exceedingly well written and interesting in terms of stories and characters.) The done thing for fans was to come up with your own Redwall persona – that is, who you would be if you lived in the Redwall universe. I was a hare, called Lupwa (the sound my initials, LPW make if you try to say them all together – I was a clever child!) And she had a story to tell, as all good characters do. It was also the done thing to weave these characters of our creation into fan fiction pieces, some of which were actually quite good. I never got around to finishing Lupwa’s tale, what with school work and everything else, but what I did write I posted on FanFiction.net and at the time it got a good response.
Usually, in the interviews, the writer admits that their early work wasn’t up to a standard they’d accept now. And I have to agree – there are some things very wrong with Lupwa’s Story. But it’s not terrible. And I thought my loyal readers would appreciate a laugh, if nothing else. So, I have decided to share my first attempts at writing with you! I’m going to upload one chapter a day, until I reach the point where I run out, so keep coming back to see what happens! I may finish it finally, if there’s enough interest.
Do let me know what you think – be nice guys!
